September 22ed, 2023 

ACTIVITIES – Game Night is coming up Tuesday, September 26th from 6:00 to 8:00.  Bring your friends, favorite snacks, beverages and join your hosts Jan Session and Adrienne Farrell for a fun filled evening!  See you there!

SUNFLOWER READERS – On Tuesday, September 26th, Sunflower Readers welcome back longtime members as well as newcomers to the start of the fall season at 7:00 pm in the Village Center Library.  The book we will be discussing is Kane and Abel by Jeffry Archer.

SUNFLOWER/SAFEWAY VACCINATION CLINIC – Come one, Come all!! Get your vaccination here at Sunflower!!  Conveniently located in the Fiesta Room: September 27th from 9am to 12noon and again on October 3rd from 7:30am to 1:00pm.  Grab a bite while you wait – Cookies and Starbucks coffee will be served!  A 10% off coupon for groceries at Safeway offered to everyone getting a vaccine. Vaccines available will be:

  • Flu shot - Quadrivalent; the 65+ high dose, or normal dose for 64 and under.
  • OSV
  • Shingles
  • Pneumonia
  • TDAP
  • Covid

You need to bring your insurance card or a photocopy of it and dates of previous vaccinations.  There will be a form to fill out.  Depending on your insurance, some shots may require a copayment.

PRIMAVERA – You are invited to Primavera's 40th Anniversary Garden Walk.  Learn how our gardens strengthen our communities.  The event is on Sunday, October 1st and is free and open to the public.  Start time is 1:00 pm at the Tierra Anita Garden, 1230 N. Anita Av., and continues at 2:00 pm at the La Capilla Garden, 227 W. 34th St.  See below for a list of items needed by Primavera.  Thanks very much for all of your donations.

RATTLE SNAKES – The center is receiving calls that rattle snakes have been recently found on residents’ property.  Please be aware when walking the paths, gardening or when walking your dogs.  The fire department will remove a rattle snake from your property if the snake is blocking an entry way, in a garage or in a high traffic area.

September 15th, 2023 

VETERANS – Sunflower Veterans Club Annual Barbecue is October 7th, 11:30– 2:30.  The cost is only $15 for two sandwiches, pulled chicken or pulled pork, coleslaw, beans and ice cream.  Ticket sales in the clubhouse lobby:

  • Saturday September 23rd 9-11
  • Wednesday September 27th 1-3

Tickets can also be purchased on line here.  One hundred percent of our proceeds go to charities that support veterans throughout the Southern Arizona area.  Please come on out and join us.

GENEALOGY – The Sunflower Genealogy Society’s September meeting will be a Field Trip on Tuesday, September 26th, to the Family History Center West at 3530 W Magee Road.  Members can drive there on their own or meet at the Community Center at 1:15pm to get organized and share rides for the 2pm tour.  Learn about the various resources at the center to help expand your family history ancestor searches.

September 10th, 2023 

AD-HOC SPORTS COURT COMMITTEE – Looking for Volunteers for this new committee!  The committee will be charged with researching past, present and future needs: the feasibility, location and approximate cost of construction of new Sports Courts in Sunflower, as well as creating a CIF project.  If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the volunteer application that is available at the front desk or here.  Turn the compleated form in at the front desk.

AD-HOC FACILITY MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE – Looking for Volunteers for another new committee!  This committee will assess the equipment for the Sunflower Center and determine the maintenance program best suited to protect the community’s assets.   Their responsi- bilities will include, but not be limited to, pool equipment, heating and air conditioning and electronic doors.   If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the volunteer application that is available at the front desk or here.  Turn the compleated form in at the front desk.

September 9th, 2023 

POTLUCK – The 7th Annual Breast Cancer Potluck will be October 12th; social time will be 5:30pm and dinner will then be at 6pm.  This year it will also be an Italian Potluck, with yummy pastas, garlic bread, salads and of course desserts.  If you don't like pasta, I will have some other choices for you also.  Tickets sales will be Wednesday, September 27th from 12n to 2pm and then again on Monday, October 2nd from 2pm to 4pm.  The tickets are $2.00 each if you bring a side dish or dessert and FREE if you bring a main dish.  Water and Lemonade will be provided but feel free to bring the beverage of your choice.

TECH CLUB – October 1 is the deadline for paying member dues for returning and new members, both household and club members.  When You pay you will receive the new passwords for the Tech Lab computers and WiFi.  These will go into effect starting October 1.  Go to this link for more information about Tech Club membership and how to pay.

PRIMAVERA – Items currently needed by Primavera:

  • Sheets (queen size or twin size)
  • New and gently used towels for the new mobile shower
  • Sunscreen, hats, new underwear, men's crew socks and refillable water bottles
  • Single serve, non-perishable healthy snacks (200-300 are needed per week)
  • Empty & clean prescription bottles with personal information removed

Please place donations in the box outside the main entrance of the Village Center.  Thanks for all of your donations.

VETERANS CLUB – We ask that you continue to bring items for the Patriots Pantry.  The pantry appreciates all donations.  There is a basket in the lobby near the back entrance, west side, for donations that can be left at any time.
