1.         ELECTION COMMITTEE: Mark your calendar and get ready to Meet The Candidates. It's coming up fast, first session is Thursday, October 7th from 6:30 pm - 8:00pm. The second session is Saturday, October 9th, 9:00am - 10:30am. We will also be presenting both sessions via ZOOM.  Please take the time to listen to what they have to say so you can make an educated decision voting on who will represent all of us.
2.         SOCIAL CLUB: Tuesday, October 5th, from 10:00 to Noon is our final sales desk for October 16th's "Fabulous Fall" dinner.  We will be serving a chicken dinner from Cracker Barrel at 6:00 p.m. followed with entertainment by folk singer/songwriter Wally Lawder.  Tickets are $10.  New members will be charged $2 dues for the rest of 2021. 3.         DANCE CLUB: The Dance Club will be having our Halloween Spooktacular Party Saturday, October 30th, 6 pm to 8:30 pm.  The tickets are $12 pp.  The next ticket sale date is Tuesday, October 5th, 12 - 2.  We'll have a DJ, prizes, photo's and more.  Best costumes will be decided by attendees. OUR DANCES AND ACTIVITIES ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CLUB MEMBER TO ATTEND.
4.         FOOD COLLECTION: The Food Collection Basket in the Village Center Lobby has a change of recipient effective September 27. Donated items will now be delivered to the Patriots Pantry at the Southern Arizona Veterans Community Hospital. In fact, the hospital nutritionist who works with their food insecure patients will be the Veterans Club speaker on Wednesday, October 6th at 9:30 in the Fiesta Room. Come have a listen if you would like. Bring something to put in the grocery cart. Most needed items are sources of high protein. Canned Meats/Fish. Peanut Butter. Hearty low-salt soups. Other items like dried beans/peas/lentils, pasta, canned pasta sauces, canned fruits in water or natural juices and granola bars are also welcomed. Thank you!
5.         VETERANS CLUB FALL BBQ:  Tickets have gone on sale for the Annual Fundraising BBQ.  The date is October 23rd and each ticket is $12.  The Sun Catcher has complete details. Online site to purchase tickets:  In person purchases can be made on the back patio October 6th between 10:30 and Noon and on October 16th between 9 and 10:30. Last day for ticket purchases is October 16th.
6.         TECH CLUB: The Tech Club now has a pro-temp board and is asking if anyone would like to join them!  There will be official elections in November, and we would like to get anyone interested in running or helping onboard ASAP.  Please call Tim Walter if you are interested in joining the board or helping the tech Club going forward. 520.775.0222
7.         PICKLEBALL MORNING HOURS CHANGE: Pickleball Club morning hours are changing as of October 1, 2021. Monday through Saturday morning hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  Evening hours will remain the same, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
8.         ACTIVITY COMMITTEE: Sunflower Comedy Theater - There are only a few tickets left for the One Act Plays on Saturday, October 2 at 6:30 and Sunday, October 3 at 2:30. Tickets are $10 each; we have 4 left for Saturday and 10 left for Sunday. Refreshments will be served after the performances. Tickets will be available at the door if they plays are not sold out. You can also get tickets by calling Vicki at 520-244-8734 or Monica at 520 382 7248.
Life Enrichment Series - Tickets for the Primer on Southwestern Chiles will go on sale October 4th, Monday from 11-1:00 and October 12th, Tuesday from 9 to 11. Tickets are $5. Seating limited to 50. Donna Nordin, previous owner of Tucson's Cafe Terra Cotta, will discuss, share her knowledge plus give us a taste treat of the challenging chile! TREES TALK! Please join the Life Enrichment Series Talk Friday. October 15th at 1:00 in the Fiesta Room to hear what trees can tell us. The University of Arizona is a world leader in Tree Ring Science and we are privileged to have Larry Allen enlighten us on the study of Dendrochronology. You will be amazed.
KARAOKE IS BACK!!!! Louis Aquino will be back at the Fiesta Room the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30. Mark your calendars for the return of this very popular event. This is a free event but donations are appreciated. See you there on October 19.
MUSIC UNDER THE STARS Sponsored by the Sunflower Activities Committee You are invited to the Free Sunflower Community MUSIC UNDER THE STARS event. Don't miss this twice a year special event. It will be held at the Village Center back patio on the grass. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the music of GIANT BLUE featuring Anna Warr. Giant Blue provides high-quality jazz-rock and blues with Anna Warr on vocals, a monster horn section and a HOT rhythm section.

Bring: Lawn Chairs and BYOBeverage and snacks
Dinner: Jozarelli's Italian Food Truck will be selling Italian specialties starting around 4PM. Dessert: Fitness Club will be selling Ice Cream Sandwiches.
October Pool Party - You don't have to swim to come to the pool party! The FREE Pool Party will be on Friday, October 22nd from 5:30 to 8:30. Music will be provided by our DJ extraordinaire, Mike Foreman. This is the last scheduled pool party of the season. If you want us to sponsor more pool parties, email and let us know. BYOBeverage and food in non-glass containers and enjoy our beautiful desert fall evenings. This is an adults only event.
Game Night - A reminder that Game Night for Friday, October 1 is canceled due to using the Fiesta Room for rehearsal for the One Act Plays. Mark your calendars for Game Night on Friday, November 5th at 6:30 until 8:30 PM.
9.         2021-2022 RESIDENT DIRECTORY: Great news, the Resident Directories are ready for pick-up. There is one FREE directory per household.  The cost to purchase an extra directory is $1.00.  Please request your directory at the front desk.  Thank you.

10.        SMOKE DETECTOR TIME: Friday, November 5th.  Please see the front desk for the request form for changing batteries. If your batteries haven't been replaced in four years, now is the time.  Please provide batteries for all of your smoke detectors. Volunteers are needed to assist in this service. Our resident volunteer, Del Gustin, is retiring. This will be his last chance to be of service to the residents and your last chance to show your appreciation for all the years he has been changing batteries.  We all thank you Del for volunteering.
11.        COMMUNITY YARD SALE: Saturday, October 16th.  Sign-up at the front desk. Fee is $5.00. Deadline for signing up and getting on the map is Tuesday, October 12th.

12.        POLICY CHANGES: The Board of Directors approved at the September BOD meeting to post the revisions to three (3) of the policies for 30-days. The changes will be for Policy 6.01 Facilities Rental Policy, Procedure for Non-Catered Food Events and Procedure for Association Sponsored Catered Food Events. Policies are posted at the Village Center and also on the website (under "Announcements") for review. We ask that you review and add or forward any comments to Andrea Eisenhauer at
13.        POOL GATE AND INFORMATION: After further discussion at the September Board meeting, the east pool gate will no longer be open during the Village Center's operating hours. If you are coming to the fitness center or pool when the center is open, please come thru the center, scan at the entry doors and then you will need to scan your proximity cards again at the fitness doors or interior pool gate. If the proximity card is not scanned in both location it will not allow you access. REMINDERS: the pool and fitness center will remain closed from 12:30pm-1:30pm for daily cleaning, all guest must register at the front desk and must be accompanied by the Sunflower resident at all times. Please ensure all rules are being obeyed. If you see rules not being followed please let staff know, you can come into the center or call us at 520-572-9780. Alerting our staff would be much appreciated. This way, we are able to address any issue(s).
