1.      SIGN-UP REMINDERS: A few reminders when signing up for the amenities (pool, fitness center, tech room or billiards). If you have reserved a time slot for one of the amenities and will not be able to make it, please cancel your reservation. Two ways you can do so, log back in and cancel or you can call the Village Center at 520-572-9780 and one of the staff members will assist. Due to the limited spaces, this will help allow those that would like to sign up the opportunity to do so.

Also, please remember the times of the sessions. We ask that everyone be mindful of when coming and going on time. If anyone is coming in earlier before the time session begins, cleaning may be still in progress. If anyone is staying later after the time session has ended, this will delay the cleaning process for the next time session. Furthermore, staying later on the last session of the day will only delay the staff. We ask that you please leave on time.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation and patience as we are extending the hours of the Village Center from 7:00am-7:00pm Monday thru Saturday and opening up more of the facility to allow clubs and non-clubs to utilize the Fiesta Room, Craft Room and Back Patio starting April 12th. To reserve one of the rooms please contact Margie at 520-572-9780.

2.         ELECTION COMMITTEE ON THE CIF ELECTION PROCESS: The Electronic and Paper Ballot voting for the CIF "SUNSATIONAL PROJECTS" closes at 5:00pm on Monday, April 19th. As a Sunflower homeowner, if you have not yet voted, please do so NOW before the deadline. If you are returning your paper ballot by U.S. Mail, the postmark deadline is Monday, April 12, 2021. If you would like to review the projects being voted on, they are in the March Special Edition of the SunCatcher which may be picked up in the rack by the Front Desk or ask the Front Desk attendant for a copy. The summary of the projects is also found on the Sunflowerliving.com website.

Be sure to cast your ballot by Monday, April 19, 2021 before 5:00pm.

3.      LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE: Water for landscaping can come from two sources:  water transported here from other areas (Colorado River) and from rain.  Tucson Water estimates that 25% of drinkable water goes for landscape use.  Rainwater harvesting systems allow us to capture and direct water when it rains in order to reduce reliance upon the drinkable water that is pumped here.  Preliminary landscape plans call for basins which are a passive water harvesting component.  (Active components involve cisterns and plumbing.)  For more information, we recommend these links:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsyFvlMo79k (6 min) a local landscaping company makes a strong case for water harvesting and looks at some components installed at one residential property.

And finally, https://cals.arizona.edu/pima/smartscape/operating-maintaining-and-enhancing-your-rainwater-harvesting-system-april-24/ information and registration for a rainwater harvesting systems maintenance class by the UA Cooperative Extension.

In our next installment we will address pruning techniques for healthier plants.  Meanwhile, take a walk around Sunflower and enjoy our shrubs that are starting to bloom.
